The site divides its telephones into 1875–1900, 1900–1930, 1930–1960 and 1960–1990, with separate sections for public telephones, test and field telephones, and toy telephones. It also has pages on exchanges and equipment, photographs and technology. Among the 1875–1900 objects is a wooden telephone with one magnet and terminal screws on the outside, used for teaching.
Timeline of Dutch telephony
The timeline begins in 1877 with the first trials in The Hague. On 1 June 1881, the NBTM opened a telephone office in Amsterdam with 49 subscribers, marking the start of the public telephone service. In 1903, The Hague received the first exchange with a central battery system, eliminating the hand crank. The site is being rebuilt and not all its material is online yet.
