Contemporary Tibetan art
Lama Tashi Norbu and Leela Eleni Skitsa founded the museum in 2017 as one of the world’s first museums devoted to contemporary Tibetan art. Its permanent collection includes paintings, sculptures and photographs by Tibetans in the diaspora or exile, by artists from Lhasa and by artists of other nationalities who take Tibet as their subject. Most of the contemporary works are by Lama Tashi Norbu himself.
Dalai Lama, altar and mandala
A wall is dedicated to the Dalai Lama. Visitors can also see Tibetan clothing and everyday objects, a sand mandala and religious objects from Tibetan Buddhism. The family altar is nearly complete and shows how Tibetans practise their faith at home. The museum also keeps Dalai Lama scrolls.
Museum and shop
Part of the ceiling and roof is glass, so the galleries receive daylight. The audio tour is available in Dutch, English and German. The museum shop offers Tibetan amulets, statuettes, prayer wheels and prayer flags. MoCTA has been a member of the Dutch museums association since October 2022.
