A collection from a glassmaking town
The Nieuw-Buinen/Buinerveen historical society preserves tools and machines used to make glass, as well as a large collection of glassware. The society says much of it was made in Nieuw-Buinen and used by people in the village and surrounding area. The museum therefore presents both the work behind the glass and the objects it produced.
Why Nieuw-Buinen?
Nieuw-Buinen was founded in 1823 as large-scale peat extraction reached the area. The village later developed a significant glass industry and became known as a glassmaking town. The museum connects that local history with the objects and equipment that have survived.
Planning a visit
The glass museum is housed in MFA Noorderbreedte in Nieuw-Buinen. The society says admission is free. Opening hours are not listed.
