Farming, beachcombing and wool
The museum has been extensively renovated. A new room contains machines that turn wool from Ameland sheep into sustainable products; visitors may not walk among the machines. The museum shop sells organic wool products. The beachcombing collection is displayed in the Juttersschuur shed and outdoors.
Polder farmers
The book Polderboeren, about 18 farms built in the 1950s in the land consolidation area between Ballum and Hollum, is due out on 24 October. It will be presented that day in the museum's farmhouse. Author Anne de Jong describes how 18 Ameland families left their village homes to start again in the new polder. Six of those farms are still used for agriculture; the other twelve have other uses.
