Rescues and shipping
The centre tells Ameland's maritime history through rescues, shipping and communication at sea. Its highlight is the bridge, where visitors can briefly take the captain's place.
The horse-drawn lifeboat
The museum explains the famous horse-drawn lifeboat, a striking sight when ten horses pull it towards the sea. Demonstrations take place several times a year. Two remain scheduled in 2026: Saturday 17 October at 3 p.m. and Tuesday 29 December at 2 p.m., starting at the Maritime Centre. The website notes that dates and times may change.
