Four kinds of landscape
The permanent exhibition divides the Nationaal Landschap Zuidwest-Fryslân into four landscape types. Look out for soil, elevation and water as recurring factors; they will help you recognise outdoors why areas look different and are used differently.
From the Ice Age to the V2
Themes range from the Ice Age and the Zuiderzee to events in the Rijsterbos. Do not treat these as one continuous history: for each subject, choose which traces can still be found in today’s landscape.
Native plant garden and route booklets
The native plant garden (heemtuin) and the walking and cycling routes make the centre a starting point. Hands-on activities are also aimed at children. Ask at the desk which route suits the season, the time available and your mobility.
Before you go
The schedule changes with the season and the school holidays. The venue is described as largely wheelchair accessible, with an accessible toilet and a wheelchair available.
