Birds and coastal land
The museum provides extensive information about local birds and the history of the coastal land outside the dike, which formed after the construction of the Afsluitdijk. It is run by the R. Joustra family.
Geese on the coast
From mid-October to mid-April, tens of thousands of geese spend the winter on the coastal strip between Workum and the Afsluitdijk. At several points along the former Zuiderzee dike, information panels describe the species of geese found in the area.
Piaam
Piaam appears in written records as early as 1555, under the name Pianghum. The village stands on the IJsselmeer dike between Makkum and Workum and is a protected historic village area. Its monuments include the Dutch Reformed church and the Nynke Pleats.
