A garden for teaching
Father Peter Jochum started a botanical garden here in 1933 for biology lessons at the monastery. Missionaries brought seeds from different parts of the world to Steyl. The garden therefore also tells a story about where its plants came from.
From tree to Tiglian garden
You can examine the soft bark of the giant sequoia up close. The native plant garden and Tiglian garden then offer two different ways to look at species and their habitats.
Herbs and a greenhouse
The herb garden draws attention to plants and their uses; the Mediterranean greenhouse shows a different growing environment. Compare the labels and the different conditions in which the plants grow.
