Van Abbemuseum: exploring modern and contemporary art

The Van Abbemuseum in Eindhoven combines an international collection with changing exhibitions. You can plan a broad visit or look closely at a single display.

Plan your visit ↗

Choosing your own way in

Start with a work that makes you curious, even if you do not immediately know why. Describe to yourself what you see before you read the label. That turns the text into a supplement to your own observation.

Taking in the display

Look at how works are placed next to each other and what questions the exhibition asks. A collection is larger than what is shown at any one time. So check the current exhibitions if you are coming for a particular subject or artist.

Time to slow down

You could alternate looking with a visit to the café. The museum shop is also accessible without a museum ticket. Booking is not required for an ordinary visit; events may have their own conditions. On Tuesdays there is a free afternoon slot.

Before you go

Check current exhibitions, events and public holiday hours. The usual closing day is Monday.
