Biermuseum De Boom: the tools behind a familiar drink

Nationaal Biermuseum De Boom in Alkmaar covers the history of brewing and drinking beer. The museum is housed in a former brewery building.

Plan your visit ↗

From tool to process

Brewing tools and machines invite you to look at the production process step by step. Ask what a part does before moving on to the next. That way a technical collection makes sense even without prior knowledge of brewing.

Glasses and bottles

Packaging and drinking vessels put a different emphasis from the production equipment. Compare shape and use and see what explanation the museum provides. The combination covers making beer as well as serving and drinking it.

Keeping museum and tasting room apart

The tasting room downstairs is a separate part with its own opening hours. An open café therefore does not mean the museum can be visited too. Besides the regular museum timetable, there are extra holiday and Sunday openings that you need to check separately.

Before you go

Follow the museum calendar and do not treat the tasting room’s hours as museum opening.
