The specimen as a scientific object
For each piece, read which technique, dating and provenance are stated. Fluid, cross-section and preservation influence what remains visible and what is lost.
Normal and abnormal
The collection compares anatomical variation and conditions. Use careful medical language, avoid sensationalism and treat visible human remains with respect.
A history of collecting
Old specimens also tell how doctors and biologists carried out research and classified. Ask which ethical rules and documentation apply today and how past practices are interpreted.
