Wereldmuseum Amsterdam: stories and cultures in context

Wereldmuseum Amsterdam on Linnaeusstraat offers exhibitions about cultures around the world. The museum was formerly called Tropenmuseum; use the current location and programme information for your visit.

Plan your visit ↗

Start with an exhibition

You cannot take in a wide-ranging museum at a single glance. Choose a current subject that appeals to you and see how objects, images and personal stories are explained within it. Ask not only what something is, but also what setting it comes from.

Room for different perspectives

With collections from very different societies, context matters. Read who speaks in the display and what background is given for an object. That way an object stays connected to people and use, rather than only to its appearance.

A programme for your group

Besides the exhibitions there is a Junior programme for children. Activities have their own times and conditions. The extra Mondays in the school holidays are also tied to a specific calendar, not to just any holiday week.

Before you go

Check the Amsterdam calendar and book any Junior activities separately.
