Luchtvaart- & Oorlogsmuseum Texel: the island in aviation

The Luchtvaart- & Oorlogsmuseum Texel in De Cocksdorp links flying with the island’s wartime history. The presentation covers both aviation sites and events on the ground.

Airfield and naval air station

Vliegveld Texel and Marinevliegkamp De Mok (naval air station) offer different ways into the subject. See how the museum explains their roles and which objects or images go with them. This creates more coherence than a loose list of aircraft names.

War on Texel

The air war, the Atlantic Wall and the Georgian Uprising (Opstand der Georgiërs) are separate subjects in the museum. Take time for the explanations, especially if you are not yet familiar with that history. The events need to be clearly placed in time and setting.

A visit within the season

In 2026 the museum is open from 31 March to 25 October, with Monday as its closing day. Groups and schools make arrangements in advance. So do not plan an island trip around an assumed winter opening.

Before you go

Check the season and request group or educational visits in advance.
