Giving a painting time
With a painting, look at posture, light and brushwork as well as the subject depicted. That way you can discover differences between works even without knowing any names, and read the museum’s explanations more purposefully.
The current display
The collection and temporary exhibitions together determine what you get to see. An announced Hals-Rembrandt exhibition may have different visiting hours from the regular museum route; check the period it runs.
Allowing for building work
Closed galleries are mentioned for August to October 2026. That need not prevent the whole museum visit, but it makes it sensible to check the available route in advance.
Before you go
Use the Hof location; HAL has closed as a museum. Check gallery restrictions, the right time slot and any earlier opening during a temporary exhibition.
