Panorama Mesdag brings Scheveningen into view all around you

The nineteenth-century cylindrical painting surrounds the visitor with coast, dunes and village, complemented by museum galleries with work from the Hague School.

Plan your visit ↗

Standing in the centre

See how the cylindrical painting surrounds you and look for horizon, light and scale. Notice the way the painted view connects the coast and the village.

A moment of Scheveningen

Look at clothing, boats and buildings as a painted selection. Compare a detail with a historical source before you treat the panorama as an exact photograph.

Mesdag beyond the dome

The other galleries show paintings and context. Find a smaller coastal work and compare brushwork, viewpoint and weather with the circular panorama.

Before you go

Tuesday–Sunday 10.00–17.00; Monday usually closed. Christmas, New Year and the afternoon of New Year’s Eve differ; check public-holiday Mondays in advance.
