Yayoi Kusama at the Stedelijk: seventy years of art beyond the dots
The Amsterdam survey ranges from early works in Japan to new mirrored installations. Entry to the exhibition requires a timed ticket.

From 11 September 2026 to 17 January 2027, the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam presents a survey of Yayoi Kusama, including a new version of a mirror installation.
The museum traces more than seventy years of work. Kusama began her career in Japan in the early 1950s and later moved to New York. The survey brings together early works from Matsumoto, experiments from New York and recent works from Tokyo.

According to the Stedelijk, the exhibition also includes paintings, sculptures, drawings, fashion, collages and happenings. Historical pieces never before shown in Europe appear alongside better known works.
The exhibition was curated by Leontine Coelewij and developed with Fondation Beyeler in Basel and Museum Ludwig in Cologne. Following Kusama’s death, the Stedelijk describes the survey as a posthumous tribute. According to the museum’s FAQ, the Amsterdam presentation has its own route designed for the building.
A timed exhibition ticket is required for Kusama; a standard museum ticket does not include this survey. According to the Stedelijk’s FAQ, adult admission costs €32.50 including the supplement; Museumkaart holders pay €10, while visitors aged 18 and under enter free. Most people entitled to free entry still need to book a time slot. The ticket covers the entire exhibition, including the mirrored rooms, where a wait may be necessary.
The Stedelijk is at Museumplein 10 and opens daily from 10 am to 6 pm, with earlier opening on some days. The final Kusama entry slot is 4.45 pm, according to the FAQ. Your selected time applies to entering the exhibition; you can explore the rest of the museum before and after.
