Autumn break in the south: four museum ideas
Family activities and exhibitions from Venlo to Middelburg, with some galleries closed in Maastricht and Den Bosch.

The Dutch government recommends 17 to 25 October 2026 for the autumn school break in school region Zuid. Schools may choose different dates.
The Limburgs Museum in Venlo has holiday activities from 17 to 25 October. Children aged six to twelve can use a free Museumtas activity bag, and there is a trail looking for objects related to technology and research. On 24 October, the museum holds a free family day devoted to food, stories and traditions; advance booking is required.

The Bonnefanten in Maastricht has limited access: its second floor is closed while a new exhibition is installed. The floor with old art and the floor with Born to Play remain open during the autumn break. Born to Play is designed for children aged six to twelve. The exhibition galleries will be fully closed from 26 October through 10 November.
Het Noordbrabants Museum in ’s-Hertogenbosch says its Van Gogh gallery is being rebuilt, leaving fewer rooms open. De kinderen van Sluijters and 15 Mysteriën van de rozenkrans are on its current programme; the latter runs through 25 October. The museum opens Tuesday to Sunday, 11 am to 5 pm.
In Middelburg, the Zeeuws Museum offers ZM Zigzag, a free illustrated guide shaped like a paper phone for children aged ten and under. It is available at the desk in Dutch and German. The museum at Abdij 4 opens Tuesday to Sunday, 11 am to 5 pm.
In Venlo, adults pay €17.50 and children aged four to seventeen €8. In Den Bosch, an adult ticket costs €17.50 online or €19.50 at the desk; admission is free for under eighteens. In Middelburg, adults pay €16 and visitors aged eighteen or under enter free.
