The Limburgs Museum in Venlo tells the province’s history through objects, personal stories and exhibitions. In October 2026, visitors also encounter a museum in transition. Part of the first floor has been rearranged while a new permanent collection display is being built. According to the museum, the other floors and exhibitions remain open.

Van neanderthaler tot stedeling (From Neanderthal to city dweller) is an ongoing display following archaeological finds from prehistory, the Roman period and the Middle Ages. It includes mammoth bones, an explanation of how Romans built a bridge and an activity booklet. The Buggenum coin hoard was added permanently in December 2025.

Feest! (Celebration!) looks at another kind of heritage: what people in Limburg celebrate, with whom and why. Carnival and shooting festivals appear alongside Ramadan celebrations and bar mitzvahs. The ongoing family exhibition uses games, interviews and contributions from local people. Visitors can design a Ramadan lantern or dance in a silent disco.

Temporary exhibitions broaden the picture. Toko Limburg explores Indonesian and Moluccan food culture in the province through family cookbooks, historical objects and video portraits. Over de grens examines crime in Limburg; the museum recommends it for visitors aged about twelve and over. Both are scheduled through 3 January 2027. Geloof (Faith), scheduled through 28 February 2027, pairs 35 works from the Rijksmuseum collection with personal views on rituals and sources of strength.

The museum plans to bring familiar and lesser-known stories and differing perspectives together in its new collection presentation. It expects to open in summer 2027.

The museum stands at Keulsepoort, opposite Venlo station, and is normally open on Saturdays from 11 am to 5 pm. For the autumn holiday from 17 to 25 October 2026, its website lists extra family activities, including a discovery trail and a Toko Limburg family day on 24 October. The museum also shares stories online through Ons Limburgs Museum.
