De Theefabriek has been housed in a former church in Houwerzijl since 1990. In theatrical settings, its tea museum follows tea from plant and plantation through factory and tea clipper to packing and drinking.
Its own twenty-minute documentary was filmed at the Idulgashinna tea plantation in Sri Lanka. Heren van de thee tells the story of Rudolf Kerkhoven and Jenny Roosegaarde Bisschop at the Gamboeng plantation in Java, from 1870 to 1907; the exhibition includes photographs, documents and personal belongings.
